Disease-Free Shrimp Seed Program Expands to Coastal Districts Under Government Supervision

By May, the Disease-Free Shrimp Seed (DFSS) initiative had expanded to more than 120 farms across
Khulna, Bagerhat, and Satkhira, with technical support from the DoF and private sector partners. The
program distributed laboratory-tested post-larvae to selected farms and introduced standardized farm-level
biosecurity protocols.
Field officers monitored salinity, water exchange, and feed conversion ratios to prevent viral infections such as
White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV). Early data showed that farms using DFSS recorded up to 20% higher
survival rates compared to traditional systems.
Officials described the initiative as a “turning point” for Bangladesh’s shrimp industry, ensuring long-term
sustainability and improved access to international premium markets.
