Bangladesh Shrimp Exports Remain Steady Amid Global Price Decline.

Bangladesh’s shrimp export sector faced mixed fortunes in November 2016. According to FAO Globefish,
global shrimp prices were under pressure due to higher production from India, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Despite
this, Bangladesh maintained steady export volumes to its key markets in the European Union, the United States,
and Japan. Local exporters focused on premium black tiger shrimp, which continued to fetch better prices
because of their natural and antibiotic-free reputation.
Industry insiders reported that while export earnings slightly decreased, buyer confidence remained strong
thanks to Bangladesh’s commitment to quality control. The Department of Fisheries intensified inspections in
processing plants and cold-storage facilities, ensuring that all exporters complied with HACCP and EU hygiene
standards. Officials also highlighted the need for better farm-level traceability to retain access to sensitive
markets like the EU, where new food-safety regulations were being enforced.
