Northern Bangladesh Sees Expansion of Freshwater Fish Farming Infrastructure

In November, the Government of Bangladesh approved a new round of pond-development and aquaculture
infrastructure in northern divisions such as Rajshahi and Rangpur. These efforts included subsidies for pond
lining, aeration equipment, feed access and on-farm training. The initiative seeks to reduce regional production
imbalance and strengthen food-fish supply outside the traditional southern regions.
Officials said the move would help diversify aquaculture systems, generate rural employment and improve
resilience to climate and flood risks. They also emphasised the importance of modern feed, extension services
and efficient marketing systems.
